Be Strong International honored with naming of street in village
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Palmetto Bay Mayor Karyn Cunningham, along with others, celebrated the street naming.

Be Strong International was honored recently by the Village of Palmetto Bay with the naming of a street, “Be Strong Way,” in recognition of its lasting contributions to the community and its unwavering commitment to empowering youth and families across South Florida.

The event took place at the corner of E. Indigo Street and 97th and 98th Avenues in Palmetto Bay, bringing together a wide array of elected officials, community leaders, supporters, and representatives of Be Strong International.

Among the distinguished guests attending this ceremony were Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Palmetto Bay Mayor Karyn Cunningham, who both offered remarks celebrating Be Strong International’s dedication to uplifting the local community through its various educational programs.

Founded in 1992 by Althea McMillan, Be Strong International has been a beacon of hope and a powerful force for change, providing holistic resources to youth and families to support their growth. With a focus on building stronger communities by developing and maintaining Heart Skills through healthy relationship education, the organization has grown into a leader in offering support and guidance to over 240,000 individuals in the past 30 years.

“‘Be Strong Way’ is more than just a street name — it symbolizes the legacy we leave behind in the hearts and minds of the community long after we’re gone. It represents a village within a village, built on a foundation of love, compassion, and unwavering support for our neighbors and surrounding communities,” said Michelle Shirley, CEO and Chief Heart Officer at Be Strong International.

“As we establish our home here in Palmetto Bay, we aim to be a beacon of hope dedicated to strengthening families and fostering meaningful connections for many years to come,” she added.

The event started at 4 p.m. with remarks from Palmetto Bay Mayor Karyn Cunningham; followed by Michelle Shirley, CEO, and Chief Heart Officer of Be Strong International, and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. Afterward, the official street sign unveiling ceremony took place in front of all attendees.
