Miami-Dade County Auditorium (MDCA) presents “Balance & Imbalance” and “Judo” by Bereishit Dance Company, Friday and Saturday, March 31 April 1 (both shows at 8 p.m.). These two martial arts-influenced contemporary dance shows combine live traditional South Korean pansori music with dynamic choreography and eye-popping feats of athletic prowess. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at the box office at 2901 W. Flagler St. in Miami, or online.

Founded by South Korean choreographer Park Soon-ho in 2011, Bereishit Dance Company explores thought-provoking concepts, including the laws of man and nature. The ensemble’s style is characterized by an unerring sense of spatial awareness, stirring rhythms, kinesthetic clarity, and impressive stamina.

Awash in Visceral Momentum

Korean cultural tradition of pansori is presented from a contemporary perspective through intense drumming, operatic vocalizations, and highly physical dance, resulting in a performance characterized by masterful choreography awash in visceral momentum and heart-stopping suspense.

Balance & Imbalance and Judo are co-presented with FUNDarte, part of MDCA’s spring 2023 dance season, which features a diverse range of live performances from around the globe. This includes new work by acclaimed choreographer and Miami resident Brigid Baker, in collaboration with 6th Street Dance Studio, which will be presented at the end of April 2023.

MDCA’s dance series demonstrates its commitment to provide culturally rich, diverse, and affordable programming for audiences throughout Miami-Dade County. MDCA has been recognized for the breadth and depth of its Spanish and English programming, which includes theater, dance, comedy, children’s events, jazz, and classical music.
