A new documentary, Beyond Triathlon, is a powerful testament of progress in sports has been released today by Malkus Group Productions. The film is available on streamers including Documentary+, Apple TV, Fire TV, and Roku.

Led by pioneers Dottie Dorion, Celeste Callahan, and others, a committed sports community reshaped women’s triathlon and sports. Produced by directors Chuck Malkus and Brian Bayerl, the documentary highlights an evolution while inspiring today’s athletes to value community. Malkus, a Columbus High School graduate, shares that Beyond Triathlon covers four decades of advancements.

“This film was created to honor the women who refused to accept limitations. Their courage didn’t just change a sport – it changed expectations for generations of athletes,” said Malkus, the executive producer. “Beyond Triathlon is a tribute to their fight, their spirit, and the communities that continue to grow because of them.”

At a time when female participation in competitive endurance events was often dismissed or discouraged, Dorion and Callahan led a movement that broke barriers, challenged perceptions, and ultimately transformed triathlon for generations to come. The film chronicles their trailblazing efforts – supported by a passionate and determination – to bring visibility to the athletes and events that sparked meaningful progress for women.

Through perseverance in the face of adversity, these women helped lay the foundation for Women’s Leagues and championed reforms that opened the doors for countless future competitors. Narrator Sika Henry, the first black woman professional triathlete, shares reforms which have been made recently.

Beyond Triathlon not only honors these remarkable leaders but also illuminates a transformative moment in the evolution of women’s sports. Through personal stories, historic footage, and firsthand insights, the documentary offers younger athletes a deeper appreciation of the community, mentorship, and “play it forward” spirit that continue to define the sport today.

With its blend of inspiration, history, and celebration, Beyond Triathlon stands as a tribute to the courage and resilience that changed the landscape of triathlon – and left a lasting legacy on the world of women’s athletics.
