The Black Point Yacht Club (BPYC) in Cutler Bay had its annual Holiday Party on Dec. 10. As usual, it was not only an occasion for celebration, it also was an opportunity to do something to benefit the community by conducting a toy drive.
BPYC member Jean Tong-Noon, who also is president of the Cutler Ridge Womans Club, was pleased with the response.
“Members were so generous in donating toys which were then given to the Cutler Bay Police Outreach Unit to share and give to children who would not normally get a Christmas gift,” Tong-Noon said. “There were 87 members attending the Holiday Party at Palm Island Estates and it was lovely to safely gather with friends again.”
Officer Luis Sierra of Miami-Dade County’s Cutler Bay Policing Unit said they appreciate the toy donation and the organization for all its efforts.
“Jean is an amazing woman and a very well respected and valuable person to the Town of Cutler Bay and the Police Department,” Officer Sierra said. “We are very grateful for her and the yacht club. We have coordinated with local churches and the homeless trust to identify families in need, to distribute the toys to bring smiles to children’s faces.
“During the holiday season Cutler Bay NRU (Neighborhood Resource Unit) is also randomly selecting children in Southland Mall and supplying them with small gifts that were donated by the Yacht Club.”
