The Governing Board of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) unanimously elected Broward County Commissioner Tim Ryan to serve as Chair of the Board and Palm Beach County Commissioner Marci Woodward to serve as Vice Chair, effective January 1, 2024.
A member of the SFRTA Governing Board since 2015, Ryan has served as a County Commissioner since 2012, and served as Mayor of Broward County in 2014-2015. In addition, Ryan served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006. In his role as a County Commissioner, Ryan also serves on several boards that have a significant impact on the community, including CareerSource Broward, the Water Advisory Board, and the Metropolitan Planning Organization. Commissioner Ryan is a strong advocate for diversifying our economy and bringing high-wage jobs to South Florida, protecting our environment, and improving transportation.
Ryan is a lifelong resident of Broward County, and follows in a long family tradition of public service. His father, A.J. Ryan, Jr., served in the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate from 1956 to 1967. Grandfather, A.J. Ryan, Sr., served on both the Dania Beach City Commission and Hollywood City Commission in the 1920s and was chairman of the Port Everglades Commission beginning in 1928. Ryan’s grandmother, Genevieve Ryan, was the first woman to be realtor of the year in the state of Florida in 1958 and was elected national president of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in 1965. Ryan’s nephew, A.J. Ryan, IV, is currently the Mayor of Dania Beach.
Commissioner Ryan and his wife, Debbie, live in Dania Beach, and have four children and four grandchildren.
Commissioner Marci Woodward is a 20-year resident of Boca Raton and was elected in November 2022 as Palm Beach County District 4 Commissioner. Her mission is to invest time, energy and creativity in matters important to the community while fortifying the people, businesses and resources of Palm Beach County.
Woodward cares deeply for her community and remains dedicated to representing the people of Palm Beach County. She maintains an open-door policy and welcomes the community’s input. Moreover, she looks forward to providing assistance to her constituents and open communication concerning policy, services and programs.
Commissioner Woodward serves on the board of directors as a representative of the county commission for the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency, Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, CareerSource Palm Beach County, Palm Beach Cultural Council and SFRTA.
Woodward was born in South Carolina and is married to her high school sweetheart, Michael Woodward. She graduated from the University of South Carolina-Aiken with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. They have an active outdoor lifestyle and enjoy the county’s beautiful natural environments and parks with their dogs Zoey, Pepper and Harvey.
