BUCCANEERS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today signed guard John Molchon and linebacker J.J. Russell to the team’s active roster from its practice squad.

Molchon (6-5, 309) originally entered the league as a college free agent with the Buccaneers in 2020 and spent the majority of the 2020 and 2021 seasons on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. Molchon played four collegiate seasons at Boise State (2015-19), appearing in 47 career games. The Las Vegas native was named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention in 2017 prior to collecting All-Mountain West First Team honors in each of his final two seasons with the Broncos. He wears No. 75 for Tampa Bay.

Russell (6-1, 225) entered the league as a college free agent with the Buccaneers on May 13, 2022, and was added to Tampa Bay’s practice squad on August 31. Russell played five seasons at Memphis (2017-21), starting 50-of-61 games for the Tigers and compiling 306 tackles (24 for loss), eight passes defensed, 5.0 sacks, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception and one blocked kick. The Grenada, Mississippi, native was named first-team All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) in 2021 after leading the league in solo tackles per game (6.5) and total tackles per game (10.2), which ranked fourth and ninth in the nation, respectively. He wears No. 51 for Tampa Bay.

In addition, Tampa Bay signed outside linebacker JoJo Ozougwu and tackle Justin Skule to its practice squad.

Ozougwu (6-2, 236) entered the league as a college free agent with Tampa Bay this offseason, spending training camp with the Buccaneers prior to being waived (injured) on August 16. He spent his final collegiate season at Arkansas State, recording 56 tackles and 7.5 sacks and being named All-Sun Belt Conference honorable mention in 2021. Prior to Arkansas State, Ozougwu spent four seasons at North Texas (2016-19), playing in 34 games, tallying 89 tackles (17 for loss), 7.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. The Houston native will wear No. 44 for Tampa Bay.

Skule (6-6, 315) spent four weeks on Tampa Bay’s practice squad earlier this season (Sept. 21-Oct. 18). He has appeared in 31 career games, making 12 starts, since entering the league as a sixth-round selection (No.183 overall) of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent the 2021 season on Injured Reserve for the 49ers after suffering a knee injury in June. The Clifton, Virginia, native is a product of Vanderbilt (2015-18), where he started the final 40 games of his collegiate career. He will wear No. 77 for Tampa Bay.
