Pam Gorman

1. Why are you running for this seat in Palmetto Bay government?

“I decided to run for office because I can no longer stand by as our village leaders ignore the needs and priorities of our residents. I have the experience, tenacity, and vision to be an effective voice on the council. As a longtime, active village resident, it pains me to see our village going down the wrong path and that’s why I have decided to run for village council.”

2. What do you consider the most urgent issue for village residents? How will you tackle it?

“Overdevelopment. Current council members have voted for the delusional ambitions of developers who are trying to turn Palmetto Bay into a small, high-rise metropolis. These high-density projects not only take away from our quaint, bedroom community’s vision, but also add thousands of cars to our already congested roads. I will not support high-density projects and will advocate for responsible development that improves our quality of life.”

3. Why do you consider yourself to be the best person for the job?

“As a longtime village resident and community advocate with a strong background in accounting and finance, I bring a unique skill set to be an effective voice on the village council. My husband and I have made Palmetto Bay our home since 1993. Falling in love with the natural beauty and tranquility of the area, we decided to set roots in this beautiful village long-term.

“I have worked to protect and improve our village’s quality of life. I successfully advocated for the desperately needed Fire Station 62, which is now in operation. I’ve also worked with Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, and the South Florida Water Management District regarding multiple Canal-100 issues. I am a proud member of the Palmetto Bay Garden Club and the Black Point Yacht Club.”

4. What closing statement do you want to make to our readers?

“This November, village voters will have the opportunity to vote for new ideas and solutions to the challenges we face. For the past four years, our parks have been neglected, while taxes and fees continue to increase. High-density projects now overshadow our once charming bedroom community, while no meaningful steps have been taken to solve our ever-increasing traffic problems.

“Our residents deserve better. They deserve a leader on the council willing to ask the tough questions and stand up for village families — not just show up and stand by as critical decisions are made. I am committed to protecting our village and securing a better future for our beloved Palmetto Bay.”

  1. Why are you running for this position?

“I am running for re-election in order to continue to serve the residents of this village, and to continue to be ‘the people’s councilman.’ By that I mean to continue to give them a voice in government when they have an issue or problem that needs resolution, that they can contact me at anytime, so that the services they desire can be delivered.”

  1. What do you consider the most urgent issue in Palmetto Bay?

“The most urgent issue in our village is to continue for it to have the character of a quiet bedroom community, which all our residents currently enjoy. Development should be controlled, providing for the public safety, which includes traffic control, in all its aspects, traffic calming, enforcing the speed limit in our village, and maintaining and improving the wonderful parks we have in Palmetto Bay.”

  1. Why do you consider yourself the best person for the job?

“This election will come down to trust, and who the voters can turn to when they can trust in the candidate, who has always kept his word on the important issues in our community, and on the important issues in Palmetto Bay, like, for example, the proposed expansion of 485 condos on Old Cutler Road, of which I consistently voted against, and kept my word to the voters from 2018.

“Also, the zoning of the former FPL property, I promised to keep the zoning at one unit per acre, and did, and also for eliminating the transfer of development rights in the Downtown District. Lastly, I have always, and will continue to ensure all resident’s inquiries are answered in a prompt manner.”

  1. What closing statement do you want to make to our readers?

“I was humbled and honored to have been given the opportunity to serve Palmetto Bay in 2010, and in 2018, as your District 1 representative, and it would be an honor to continue in this role, to keep Palmetto Bay the wonderful village it is, a true gem of a municipality in South Florida.”
