During the ArtesMiami annual meeting on Mar. 11 at the Riviera Country Club and sponsored by Peter Zubizarreta of UBS Bridgelane Group, the board elected business leader and executive Carlos Modia as chair of the nonprofit organization.

“Carlos Modia has been a supporter and board member of ArtesMiami for many years and has made a significant contribution to the organization,” said Aida Levitan, PhD, founder and president of ArtesMiami. “That is why we are thrilled that he has become chairman.”

Dr. Levitan also thanked cultural leader Maria Bechily for her generosity and work on behalf of ArtesMiami as chair for three years.

Modia has significant experience and accomplishments in banking and finance, publishing and public accounting as well as expertise in managing people and resources and developing corporate strategy. A business leader with a proven record of formulating efficient and effective operating and M&A strategies, he has consistently achieved and surpassed objectives, launching new products, developing new sources of revenue, raising capital and selling companies, controlling costs, and maximizing profits. Modia is currently on the board of directors of Anchor bank.

Born in Cuba, he lived in Spain as a teenager and came to the U.S., where he finished high school and college. He obtained a degree from Florida International University and his CPA license.
