Chairman’s Message: Proud of Our Success

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By: Oscar J. Braynon, Chairperson

The People’s Transportation Plan (PTP)plays a key role in enhancing transit in Miami-Dade County with funds collected from the half-penny sales tax surcharge voters approved in 2002. The Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (CITT), made up of 15 volunteers, oversees how those tax dollars are spent for improvements to transit and related transportation projects.

Over the past 20 years, the CITT Trustees have had the fiduciary responsibility of overseeing the more than $4.4 billion collected in Surtax revenue.

You will see the successes of the People’s Transportation Plan in these pages, but our job is far from over. Many more improvements are in planning and construction phases, and the CITT will continue to work with local governments and the community to ensure that Surtax funds are spent wisely for the betterment of transit and transportation in Miami-Dade County.
