ChamberSOUTH announces appointment of Melissa Cancio as executive director

ChamberSOUTH has announced Melissa Cancio as its new executive director.

“We are thrilled to welcome Melissa Cancio as our new executive director,” said Juan Hidalgo, chair of ChamberSOUTH’s Board of Directors. “Cancio’s exceptional leadership skills, coupled with her commitment to our local business community, will be instrumental in advancing our mission and ensuring the continued success of our organization.”

ChamberSOUTH, the Chamber of Commerce, is an organization devoted to growth and development for businesses in South Miami, Pinecrest, Kendall, Cutler Bay, and Palmetto Bay areas.

Cancio was born and raised in Miami, planting roots, and always learning how to create a community. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Applied Communications, and Advertising from Florida International University (FIU), and her master’s in Business Administration from North Central College in the greater Chicago area.

She was one of the first Chamber Next Young Professionals group members in 2019. Her ability to build strong relationships and commitment to collaboration has consistently delivered positive outcomes for businesses and residents in the community.

While completing her undergraduate degree, Cancio led Roarthon, FIU’s Dance Marathon, contributing more than $100,000 to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. She also was appointed to Omicron Delta Kappa’s board of trustees and recently completed her three-year term in July 2023. Her background in social responsibility and community engagement positions her to excel in her new role.

As the neweExecutive irector of ChamberSOUTH, Cancio will lead the organization in its efforts to expand membership and programming offered within the Chamber and the community it serves.

“I am honored and excited to take on the role of executive director at ChamberSOUTH,” Cancio said. “I am committed to the success of our local businesses and eager to work with our board of directors and members.”

Cancio officially assumed her role as executive director on Oct. 1. Her appointment marks a new chapter in ChamberSOUTH’s history, and the organization looks forward to achieving even greater success under her leadership.
