It is no longer hyperbole to say that Communist China poses a clear and present danger to the United States of America. China’s counterintelligence and economic espionage efforts are undermining the economic well-being and democratic values of this country and impacting the state of Florida in a significant manner. This is evident with the latest news regarding the proposed spy base in Cuba, located only 90 miles from our shores. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has been asleep at the wheel and continues to portray weakness in its geopolitical agenda. America’s enemies have no fear of repercussions and have become accustomed to our pandering as our foreign policy method of choice. It is both troubling and irresponsible for the United States to stand idly by while China establishes an intelligence facility just miles from the United States in an area also populated with key military installations and extensive maritime traffic.
We should all be deeply concerned about reports that Cuba and China are working together to target the United States, our people, and our intellectual property just 90 miles south of Florida.
The Chinese Communist Party has a long history of stealing sensitive information and critical technology from other countries, including the United States. Beijing’s surveillance of the southeastern United States and its military facilities is worrisome for all Floridians and Americans.
To effectively address this combined threat, the Biden Administration must enhance our cybersecurity protocols and strengthen international cooperation. Cuba has been known to engage in aggressive intelligence activities, harbor known fugitives, and even murder our citizens with impunity. This dual dictatorship collaboration is a direct and hostile attack on our nation’s security, aimed at acquiring sensitive information, stealing intellectual property, and conducting economic espionage.
For years, China has invested money in South America’s infrastructure and expanded its presence throughout the region. China’s growing control over critical infrastructure and artificial intelligence in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, and Uruguay, among other countries, leaves the region vulnerable to cyber threats. China has used geostrategic corruption to challenge the United States’ influence and competitive edge across the globe. China was recently accused of bribing foreign politicians in Honduras to lure away Taiwan’s diplomatic allies. And yet, our Secretary of State proceeds to bend the knee to China and state that the U.S. will not recognize Taiwan’s independence. The Biden Administration is blissfully ignoring China’s foothold in the areas of trade, energy, space, and infrastructure in the Western Hemisphere. The alarm bells are ringing, and we must pay attention.
