The Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) was honored at the recent annual CoMotion MIAMI mobility conference, with the Mobility Champion Award by the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW). This accolade recognizes the Trust’s invaluable support and collaboration in improving and advancing Miami-Dade County’s transit system.

The Mobility Champion recognition program highlights organizations and individuals whose efforts have significantly contributed to enhancing transportation infrastructure and mobility options for residents across Miami-Dade County. The CITT was recognized for its critical role in ensuring oversight, accountability, and its funding support of transit initiatives that are shaping the future of mobility in Miami-Dade.

“We are truly honored to receive the Mobility Champion Award,” said Robert Wolfarth, chair of the CITT. “This recognition is a reflection of the strong partnership between the CITT, the Department of Transportation and Public Works and all of our other transportation partners.

Together, we are committed to creating a transit system that is more accessible, more reliable, and is forward-thinking as we build a better future for all residents in our community.”

Javier A. Betancourt, the CITT‘s executive director, praised the dedication of the CITT’s volunteer Trust Members and of the office’s professional staff, noting, “Our members and staff bring passion, leadership, and a deep sense of civic duty to their work. It is through their commitment that we are able to serve the public with transparency and integrity.”

The CITT plays an essential role in overseeing the implementation of projects funded by the half-penny transportation surtax and in ensuring that transit improvements align with the People’s Transportation Plan and the needs of Miami-Dade residents. Through its collaboration with DTPW, the CITT has supported major transit and transportation initiatives, including the expansion of rapid transit corridors and the advancement of multimodal transportation solutions.

“We are fortunate to have tireless leaders and organizations that are championing mobility improvements and innovations that bring lasting benefits to our community,” said Stacy Miller, DTPW director. “Recognizing them as Mobility Champions at CoMotion in the presence of global disruptors and innovators makes it even more special.”

The Trust remains committed to working alongside its transportation partners to foster a stronger, more connected, and sustainable future for mobility throughout South Florida.
