With the end of the school year, Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins has announced the launch of the SafeSummers Program. This District 8-funded initiative is designed to provide local, community-based organizations with resources to offer full-time summer camps and programming for the children of District 8.

With a commitment of $150,000, the program’s primary objective is to create a safe and engaging environment that keeps our youth off the streets during the summer months.

Recognizing the importance of investing in our community’s future, Commissioner Cohen Higgins has awarded grants to 11 local non-profit organizations, totaling $150,000. These grants directly will support and enhance the summer programming within District 8, benefiting hundreds of young individuals and their families.

“Ensuring the safety and well-being of our children is a top priority for me and my office,” Commissioner Cohen Higgins said. “The SafeSummers Program provides District 8 youth with a productive and supportive environment that encourages growth, learning, and engagement.”

The SafeSummers Program offers a wide range of activities and opportunities for children in District 8, including sports, arts and crafts, educational workshops, cultural events, and community service projects. Commissioner Cohen Higgins encourages parents and guardians to explore the various summer camps and programs available through the SafeSummers Program.
