Miami-Dade County Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson hosted her 12th annual Back to School FUN DAY on Aug. 11 at Olinda Park.
The event featured a giveaway of book bags filled with school supplies, a Farm Share food distribution, and a health fair including free dental screenings from Colgate Bright Smile, Bright Futures; free vision tests from Miami Lighthouse Heiken Vision Program for children; free vision and health screenings from Bascom Palmer/UM School of Medicine DOCS Program. The event also included free haircuts from BuzzBox; free Sunpasses from MDX; on-site pet adoptions from Miami Dade Animal Services and pet information from the ASPCA; McGruff the CrimeWatchers’ Dog; the Miami Dade Police helicopter and DARE program zoom vehicle; music, bounce houses, raffle prizes and participation from Miami Dade Public Housing and Community Development, Elections, Consumer Services, Library Technobus, Community Action and Human Services-Liberty City Center, AETNA, Borinquen Health Care, CareerSource, Center for Family and Child Enrichment, Citrus Health,Curley’s House Food Bank, DMV on the Go; Girls Scouts of America; Habitat for Humanity; Health Council of South Florida; History Miami; Housing Finance Authority; Jesse Trice Health; Miami Children’s Initiative, Miami Children’s Museum, Miami Marlins, Sistas Organizing to Survive, Miami Dade State Attorney’s Office, Wellcare Health Plans, Waste Management, EarthSave, CareResource, Jackson Health System and CAN Health.
