Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime partnered with the Department of Solid Waste Management to host a community cleanup event on April 10 in observance of Earth Day, which is on April 22.

“Every year, the nation celebrates Earth Day by raising awareness about conserving and protecting our environment,” Commissioner Monestime said. “This year, we are showing local residents that the best way to celebrate Earth Day is to make an impact on our own neighborhoods by cleaning up and beautifying the environment in which we live every day.”

Volunteers, along with Commissioner Monestime and staff, gathered at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship Church on Saturday morning and walked through the neighborhood toting garbage bags and picking up trash and litter. The areas that were targeted for cleanup were NW 22nd Ave to 26th Ave. and NW 94th St to 87th St.

This event is part of a series of community cleanups that serve District 2.
