The smoke billowing through the breeze at Coral Reef Park didn’t just emanate from the dancing flames of the giant, prize-filled Menorah.
A fully kosher barbecue was the center of the scene at Chabad of Palmetto Bay’s annual Hanukkah event, led by Rabbi Zalman and Chani Gansburg.
Surrounding tables beckoned with engaging holiday-themed crafts for the kids, such as sand art, dreidel painting, scratch art and more, while a balloon artist and face painter kept busy by bringing smiles to many little faces. The bounce house and game truck were another real hit, adding extra excitement to an action-packed party.
Participants had the opportunity to purchase Judaica items and kippahs at pop-up stands, as well as to share sentiments of hope with wounded Israeli soldiers by writing cards in personalized, bound notebooks that will be sent to uplift spirits in the hospital.
Adults enjoyed the stand-up comedy of Avi Lieberman, joyous music and a few short words of inspiration from Rabbi Gansburg, Mimi-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Palmetto Bay Mayor Karyn Cunningham, and Councilmember Marsha Matson.
Hanukkah is all about spreading light and finding miracles. Guest speaker Rabbi Elie Estrin shared the story of his own personal miracle, his 5-year-old son, Nissi, born with congenital heart disease and given a six-hour life expectancy at birth. His deep faith and appreciation for life itself moved the crowd.
Mark Levitats was honored with kindling the eight menorah flames. The beautiful event culminated with a round of spontaneous dancing, raffles and a “prize drop” for all the children.
