Community Newspapers Recommends Judge Lody Jean for Judicial Circuit Court

Judge Lody Jean was appointed to the Miami – Dade County Court in 2018.  She became the first Haitian American Woman to serve on the Miami- Dade County Court. On April 17, 2020, Judge Jean was to the Circuit Court in Miami-Dade County. She became the first Haitian- American to serve in the Circuit Court. She is currently assigned to the Circuit Criminal Division.

Judge Lody Jean attended college at the University of Miami, where she double majored in Political Science and International Studies with a minor in Foreign Languages. Continuing her education, she attended Saint Thomas University, where she obtained her Juris Doctor degree. Judge Jean is trilingual; she speaks French, Creole, and English fluently and is studying Spanish.

Judge Jean served on the Florida Bar’s Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee. She served as the Chair of that committee in the year 2018. She served with the State Attorney in Miami-Dade County, first as an Assistant State Attorney and then as a Felony Division Chief. As a Deputy Chief, she prosecuted homicide cases and supervised many Assistant State Attorneys. 

Judge Jean keeps giving back to the community as she is a liaison for Miami-Dade Public Schools and Courts. As a liaison, she participates with the schools’ intern programs, and accepts many interns from High Schools and Law Schools. In addition to her community service, she is a mentor to many Law School students.
