Chabad Palmetto Bay was the site of a powerful memorial on October 9th, marking the first anniversary of the tragic events of October 7, 2023. The gathering brought together community members in a display of unity and solidarity with Israel, highlighting the resilience and bravery of those affected by the crisis.
Asaf Salomon, a former combat soldier in the Israeli Defense Forces, served as a keynote speaker. Salomon, who played a crucial role in the search and rescue efforts following the devastating attacks, shared his poignant experiences. He recounted the harrowing task of going from home to home, salvaging memorabilia from the rubble to help families preserve their memories amid the destruction. His stories painted a vivid picture of the courage and determination exhibited by those on the ground.
Palmetto Bay Manager Nick Marano was the master of ceremonies. Attendees included local dignitaries, with Mayor Karyn Cunningham presenting Salomon with a proclamation honoring his bravery. Council Member Steve Cody bestowed challenge coins as a symbol of gratitude for his service.
Throughout the evening, the message was clear: the people of Israel are not just ordinary citizens; they are heroes standing resiliently in the face of adversity. The memorial served not only to honor those lost but also to celebrate the strength of community and the enduring spirit of a nation.
As the gathering concluded, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose, committed to supporting Israel and standing united against the challenges ahead.
