A group of community activists, Concerned Citizens of Old Cutler, conducted a Council Candidates Forum at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Palmetto Bay on Aug. 26. All candidates running for office in Palmetto Bay were invited to attend, as well as a number of others running for county positions.
Event organizer Gary Pastorella said that more than 70 residents attended.
“It was a success as our many past forums have been,” Pastorella said. “The candidates from Palmetto Bay who did participate included current Vice Mayor Leanne Tellam and Councilmember Steve Cody who did a great job answering questions from the audience.
Candidates Mark Merwitzer and David Singer missed the great opportunity to meet with a group of residents personally and put their position on issues and plans for the future on the record.”
Candidates for countywide positions who participated included Alina Garcia, who is running for the first time election of the Supervisor of Elections; Juan Fernandez Barquin, running for Clerk of the Courts; and Dariel Fernandez, campaigning for the office of Tax Collector.
