Coral Gables launches inaugural mural project
“Greetings from Coral Gables” mural is located at McBride Plaza.

The City of Coral Gables and the Coral Gables Business Improvement District (BID) have partnered to launch “Murals on the Mile,” the city’s inaugural mural project which includes four street art creations for the area’s iconic Miracle Mile.

From the grapefruits that once lined Coral Gables farms, to the historic Biltmore Hotel, to the University of Miami’s beloved ibis, there are elements incorporated throughout the mural expressions that celebrate the history and culture of Coral Gables.

Exhibited through September 2022, the decorative displays are designed to inspire residents and visitors to safely visit Downtown Coral Gables and delight in the unique aspects of one of South Florida’s most cherished neighborhoods.

City officials marked the completion of the murals with an unveiling event on Friday, Oct.1.

“We are excited for the community to see ‘Murals on the Mile’ and enjoy all the wonderful restaurants and shops that surround them,” said Julian Perez, the city’s Economic Development director. “We invite visitors from near and far to come explore our inaugural mural initiative and experience the joy of the lively images first-hand.”

The murals were developed by Chalk & Brush, which is headed by local husband and wife designers Cinthia Santos and Benjamin Levy. They share positive messages and incorporate interactive imagery, including an umbrella that viewers can stand under, a swing and trolley. Each mural is located on Miracle Mile, and has a unique theme, including:

“You Look Beautiful in the City Beautiful” — Located at corner of Miracle Mile and Salzedo.

“Smile, You’re in Coral Gables”— Located at the corner of Miracle Mile and Ponce De Leon Blvd.

“Greetings from Coral Gables”— Located at McBride Plaza.

“The City Beautiful”— Located at McBride Plaza.

“’Murals on the Mile’ adds an uplifting and whimsical backdrop to Coral Gables’ bustling business district,” said Aura Reinhardt, the BID’s executive director. “The designs are an expression of the city’s heritage and will enhance the experience for visitors who come to the area.”

Famed Miracle Mile is in the heart of Coral Gables’ downtown, and offers a mix of art galleries, boutique shops, and restaurants all along the tree-lined street. Now, visitors will also be able to enjoy the newly installed murals and are encouraged to take photos and selfies while using the hashtags #muralsonthemile and #experiencecoralgables.
