Cornerstone Kids Preschool, part of the Cornerstone Church in Cutler Bay, will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 23, with a special event to take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the lawn in front of the preschool.
Gerrie McClary, chair of the preschool board, is working on getting it organized.
“We’re going to have a variety of things for children; it’s mainly family oriented,” McClary said. “There’ll be an inflatable slide, a fire truck demonstration, a police car demonstration, games and crafts for children, an information table for both the school and the church. We’re going to have a photo-op setup so that families can take photos on their phones if they want.”
McClary said they are going to have a deejay, a variety of food and drinks, popcorn and baked goods. There’ll also be fingerprinting kits there that parents can take and use themselves to get their children fingerprinted and registered.
“We will be getting help from some of our church member volunteers, and a couple of Boy Scout Troops that meet at our church will help set up and clean up at the end,” McClary said. “Teachers from the school will be there too.”
Miriam Bigenho, a longtime member of the church and organizer of past spring and fall county fairs, said she is looking forward to the event.
“It should be great,” Bigenho said. “Some of the children who attended our preschool years ago are all grown up now and have children of their own attending.”
Cornerstone Church was started in 2015 through the merger of two long-standing congregations: Perrine-Peters United Methodist Church and Cutler Ridge United Methodist Church. Their goal is to make a real difference in the world, both locally and globally.
“We have classes for children 18 months through 4-year-olds,” McClary said. “We have VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) for the 4-year-olds. We run on the school calendar year, so we’re open all year long.”
The church and preschool is located at 20740 Old Cutler Rd., Cutler Bay, FL 33189.
“It’s at the corner of Old Cutler Road and Marlin Drive,” McClary said. “Come join the party.”
