Councilmember Fletcher recognizes youth sport teams for achievements
Certificates of Recognition are presented by Homestead Councilmember Sean Fletcher.

Teams from the South Dade Blue Jays stepped up to the dais to receive Certificates of Recognition presented by Homestead Councilmember Sean Fletcher during the February Special Council presentation.

The teams 12U, 13U, and 9U were recognized for their accomplishments at the Greater Orlando Baseball Presidents Day Tournament. The 13U and 9U both faced fierce competition and placed as runners-up of their division while the 12U team managed to battle its way all the way to the championship.

Councilmember Fletcher took the time to thank the teams, the coaches, and especially the parents for their dedication.

“There is a lot of time dedicated to these activities and we want to not only thank the players and the coaches but also the parents who travel with these teams and provide what they need on a daily basis.”

He also remarked on the importance of teamwork.

“As you learn teamwork, the leadership capabilities are there. You have team captains that you look up to and each of you want to strive to be in one of those places. One day you can also be one of those individuals.”

Each coach and team captain were then called upon to receive their Certificate of Recognition.

The South Dade Blue Jays are a local Homestead travel baseball team dedicated to promoting the sport of baseball and helping local youth not only learn the basics of the sport but to excel in their positions. They have four travel teams from ages 8 to 13 that compete around the country and represent the city of Homestead. They emphasize the importance of youth sports in the community and how they build healthy habits, develop self-esteem, and mold future leaders.
