County’s DSWM expands used oil collection program to new sites
The ceremony featured a ribbon cutting in front of the new oil collection containers at the site.

The Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM), conducted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Apr. 26, to mark the new used oil collection program expansion to include the South Miami Heights Trash and Recycling Center (TRC).

The ceremony, which began with remarks from DSWM director Michael Fernandez and Miami-Dade County chief operating officer Jimmy Morales, featured a ribbon cutting in front of the new oil collection containers at the site, and concluded with a “christening” of the new oil containers with the ceremonial pouring of used oil to mark the start of the program at the site.

In addition to two Home Chemical Collection Centers that are open to all Miami-Dade County residents, DSWM waste collection customers can now bring their used oil to five TRC locations, including the South Miami Heights location. The used oil collected at the sites is reprocessed as motor oil or it can be blended and used for fuel.
