Mayor Cunningham could not have been more pleased about the victory.

“We did it!” Mayor Cunningham said. “The courage of our residents was contagious and fueled our positive campaign. Our community sent a resounding message that Palmetto Bay is not for sale, and I am honored and humbled by the community’s resounding vote of confidence in my leadership and look forward to the opportunity to continue my service to our community as their mayor.

“We ran a grassroots campaign with volunteers and workers that are our neighbors and friends. I am grateful to all those who opened their homes and their hearts to us and treated us with respect and kindness when discussing the issues. I know the electoral process can be emotional and passionate, but with elections behind us, I ask that we turn our attention to coming together as a community and refocus on the challenges and issues as we move forward together,” the mayor added.

Councilmember Fiore was happy to be returning to Council Seat 1.

“After going through probably the most difficult election of my life, I’m very humbled and very honored that I received almost 6,000 votes and won by 15 percent,” Fiore said.

“Despite the negative campaigning that was thrown at me, not only from the other side but from these two electioneering communication organizations that had a couple hundred thousand dollars aligned against me and the mayor, we prevailed. It was a reaffirmation that what I was doing was good for the village.”

Councilmember Matson also was pleased to be re-elected.

“I am an independent voice on village council,” Matson said. “I walked door-to-door for six months, speaking with residents about Palmetto Bay and letting them know that I cared about them and the village.

“I received the most votes and the highest percentage of votes of any Palmetto Bay candidate. They affirmed my commitment to openness in Village government, tackling serious issues, voting against overdevelopment, and helping residents. I thank residents so much for allowing me to serve four more years.”

The Swearing-in Ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 5, starting at 5:30 p.m., with a reception at the Village Hall Promenade, followed by the ceremony in Council Chambers. Light refreshments will be provided.

Village Hall is located at 9705 E. Hibiscus St.
