The GFWC Cutler Ridge Woman’s Club president and the Education and Libraries Committee awarded two Miami Southridge Senior High graduating students the club’s Mary Cross Scholarship on June 9. The scholarships went to Ariana Henderson and Ariel Reina.

“The scholarship is named after Mary Cross who has been with the CRWC since its inception 65 years ago, and is still an active member today,” said Jean Tong-Noon, CRWC president. “Ariana will study nursing and wants to specialize in newborn medicine. Ariel will study aviation, to become a pilot, and psychology.”

Shaundrea Dixon, the CAP advisor at Miami Southridge Senior High, was highly appreciative of what the CRWC did.

“I thought it was a great opportunity for my students, especially one of my students who’s going off to a state university, Valdosta State,” Dixon said. “My student did not have all of the means to take care of all of her financial obligations at the university, so the scholarship definitely helped her cover the cost that she was going to face. Ariel is going to Central Florida.”

The Cutler Ridge Woman’s Club is one of the longest running organizations in Cutler Bay.

The pandemic has made meetings and other activities more difficult, but has not stopped their efforts. For information contact them by email at GFWC.CRWC1956@gmail.com.
