Cutler Stew band ‘family’ has grown
Pictured are Cutler Stew band members (l-r): Wayne DeMario, bassist; Bill Parker, vocalist/keyboards; Daisy Stotts, vocalist; Mark Shroyer, drummer; Ron Derrick, lead guitar, and Dan Levine, vocalist/guitar.

Cutler Stew, known in Cutler Bay as “Your Hometown Band,” was formed in 2013 and has steadily grown, both in size and popularity ever since.

A high-energy cover band playing a diverse mix of rock, alt rock, country and pop favorites, Cutler Stew has played at Black Point Ocean Grill, Gilbert’s in Key Largo, Café 27 in Fort Lauderdale, Cutler Bay Sports Bar, annual Chili Cook-Off at Cutler Ridge Park and Palmetto Bay’s July 4th celebration, as well as other functions and venues.

The most recent addition to the band is Wayne DeMario who joined in July when Raf Fiol, Cutler Stew’s bassist for the past nine years, retired. DeMario has a stellar background, having been Gloria Estefan’s guitar tech and touring with her and the band for the past 30 years. He also has toured with Robert Palmer, Shakira, D’Angelo and Jon Secada, and served as the stage manager for Ultra Fest in Miami for the past 22 years. He is as enthusiastic to be playing live music again as the band is to have him.

“I am really happy to be a musician again,” DeMario said. “Not a production manager or stage manager. It’s good to go back to my roots playing with my awesome Cutler Stew family.”

DeMario also has started a guitar shop next door to Cutler Stew’s studio, rightfully named “Wayne’s Guitar World” where he has taken his skills learned over the past 30 years as a guitar tech to the stars and works on the local musicians’ guitars, as well as selling new and used guitars and basses. It is located at 18505 SW 104 Ave., Unit 4.

“Make sure to stop by and say hi to Wayne and the crew,” said Ron Derrick, lead guitarist.

“You never know who you may see there. I have personally met Santana’s guitar player as well as the Bee Gee’s bass player amongst many others.”

There were earlier family additions as well. Bill Parker joined the band in 2019 on Keyboards and is considered a true asset to the group. Daisy Stotts joined the band as a vocalist in 2018 and also thinks of it as far more than just a job.

“The love and support from our fans in this community is my driving force,” Stotts said.

“Being a third generation Ridge Rat, there is no better feeling than being on stage in my hometown with friends you consider family.”

Ron Derrick is grateful for the opportunity to participate in the community and bring music to everyone.

“In a world that is so divided, it is a real blessing to be able to be part of something that brings people of all walks of life together,” Derrick said. “Even if for only a few hours. That’s what music does.”

Cutler Stew’s next show is at Gilberts Resort in Key Largo on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 1 to 5 p.m. Their website is at www.Cutlerstew.com.
