Spending time outdoors plays an important part in improving our mental and physical health. The Deering Estate offers a variety of guided kayak tours and daily kayak rentals where participants can enjoy kayaking on Biscayne Bay.

Clear Kayak Adventure
Jan. 17, Feb., 28, Mar. 14, Apr. 25 and May 23, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., $45 (ages 9 and older), register online in advance.

Depart from Deering Estate’s boat basin on a guided clear kayak tour of Biscayne Bay. The transparent vessels give you an up close and uninhibited view of the marine life below as you paddle over sea-grass beds and head into a mangrove forest. Bring closed-toe shoes that can get wet, comfortable paddling clothing, snacks, and water. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Sunrise Clear Kayak Adventure
Jan. 23, Feb. 20, Mar. 6, Apr. 17 and May 15, 7-10 a.m., $50 (ages 9 and older), register online in advance.

Depart from Deering Estate’s boat basin on a guided sunrise clear kayak tour of Biscayne Bay. As the sun rises over the beautiful waters of Biscayne Bay and wading birds are leaving their rookery, you will paddle out toward Chicken Key, a seven-acre island and nature preserve surrounded by sandbars, tidal flats, and seagrass beds. Bring closed-toe shoes that can get wet, comfortable paddling clothing, snacks, and water. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Moonlight Kayak Tours
Feb. 27, Apr. 30 and May 28, 7-10:30 p.m., $45 (ages 18 and older), register online in advance.

Take a Moonlight Kayak Tour through Biscayne Bay. These tours will depart from Charles’ Deering’s boat basin and stop at Chicken Key, a seven-acre mangrove island and bird rookery approximately one mile off-shore. Recommended for intermediate paddlers. Bring closed-toe shoes that can get wet, comfortable paddling clothing, snacks, and water. Tour meets at the Visitor Center. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Daily Kayak Rentals
Daily, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., $25 per person for first hour, $10 for each additional hour. Advance reservations required. To reserve, call 305-235-1668, press 9, ext. 233.

Enjoy kayaking on the scenic Biscayne Bay. Paddle over sea-grass beds and explore the mangroves. Rental fees include the use of a kayak, life vest, paddles and a small dry bag for personal belongings. Must be age 18 to rent a kayak and age 9 or older to join.

Participants ages 9-17 must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian in the same kayak and ages 18-plus must bring a valid ID. All kayak rentals are two-seat/tandem kayaks.

Advance reservations, payment, and registration are required. To reserve, call 305-235-1668, press 9, ext. 233. Kayak Rentals are available daily between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., weather permitting. Kayakers must return by 3 p.m.
