The Deering Estate in Palmetto Bay will host a special concert on Sunday, Jan. 18, featuring the voice of Artist-in-Residence Susana Behar.
What is special about the event is that it reflects the history of the location, being “a musical journey imagining Charles Deering’s soundtrack in his travels around the world.”
Charles Deering, who had two large estates on Biscayne Bay in South Florida, was a man of many interests — art collector, preservationist, industrialist, amateur painter, philanthropist and an avid traveler. His passion for exploration and deep appreciation for the arts were boundless. While no one knows for sure what his tastes in music may have been, the concert invites residents to image what music might have been inspired by his world travels and his long stays in his cherished Florida.
The concert group features Susana Behar (voice), Michel Gonzalez (guitar), Adolfo Herrera (percussion), Magela Herrera (flute) and Elvis Martinez (bass).
The concert takes place at the Deering Estate Visitor Center Auditorium from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. Tickets are $30, available through EventBrite at www.eventbrite.com/e/susana-behar-in-concertimagining-the-soundtrack-of-charles-deerings-world-tickets-1977531262239 or at the Deering Estate. There will be no refunds, exchanges, or rainchecks.
