South Florida PBS honors the rich and vibrant culture of Black America this month with a variety of programming that delves into music, history, and more. A prime example of this is the four-part series Making Black America: Through the Grapevine which chronicles the vast social networks and organizations created by and for Black Americans. Watch Tuesdays, starting October 4th at 9PM on WPBT and Monday’s starting October 10th at 9PM on WXEL.
Join us for a night of jazz on WPBT Friday, October 14th! The night begins with Let My Children Hear Mingus, airing ay 9PM, this program features the life and legacy of jazz icon Charles Mingus ahead of what would’ve been his 100th birthday. The celebration of jazz continues with Bird: Not Out of Nowhere featuring rare archival footage of Charlie “Bird” Parker at 10PM and closes out with Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary, detailing the career of the boundary-shattering musician at 11PM.
