The administration team of Downtown Doral Charter Upper School (DDCUS) commemorated the inauguration of the school on Jan. 13 with a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony featuring Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools Alberto M. Carvalho. DDCUS opened in August 2019 for the 2019-2020 academic year.
The event was also attended by City of Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez, M-DCPS School Board Member Susie V. Castillo, Consul General of Spain in Miami for Florida/Georgia/South Carolina Cándido Creis Estrada, and DDCUS Head of Schools Jeannette Acevedo-Isenberg.
DDCUS is a private-public partnership managed by M-DCPS. The school accommodates up to 1,300 students between 6th and 12th grade. DDCUS offers a similar comprehensive dual-language curriculum and bilingual education that is offered at Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School, where students will have the choice of two tracks: Spanish or Portuguese. In addition, math, science, and social studies are also taught in both English and the foreign language.
The new school was designed by Zyscovich Architect, built by Campus Construction Group, and developed by Codina Partners.
