Shops at Merrick Park will present “Back to Tradition,” its 19th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, sponsored by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and Belmont Village Senior Living, on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m.
One of the largest tree lighting ceremonies and holiday celebrations in South Florida, the event will include lighting the 50-foot tree and a live performance by South Florida’s own Camie Liz. Attendees will also enjoy a variety of interactive activities, entertainment and a highly anticipated appearance by Santa Claus who will begin the festive season.
“Shops at Merrick Park is looking forward to lighting-up the holidays with new music, family fun and an unmatched spirit of joy during this anticipated annual tradition,” said Carlos Limontes, senior general manager at Shops at Merrick Park. “We’re proud to be a part of the vibrant Coral Gables community and we invite friends and neighbors to enjoy the best and brightest retail and cultural resources in our community.”
The retail destination will transform into a winter wonderland with a live performance by award-winning singer Camie Liz who will serenade attendees with holiday favorites. Liz was hand selected by Phil Collins to be a recipient of his foundation, the Little Dreams Foundation, and has performed alongside artists including KT Tunstall, Jon Secada, Lou Gramm, and Collins. A National YoungArts Foundation Winner in Voice, Liz swept iHeartRadio’s LiveMe Music House Competition winning the grand prize and a chance open for Billie Eilish, Lizzo, BTS, and more. She has released original music in a variety of streaming platforms.
The Miami Royal Ballet and Coral Gables Senior High School Gablettes will add to the festive spirit along with holiday costumed characters and a 360-degree photo booth.
Attendees are encouraged to spread the warmth of the season and bring unwrapped toys for children in care of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
One of the event highlights is Santa’s grand arrival down San Lorenzo Avenue on the Coral Gables Fire Department’s fire truck. Special guest host Belkys Nerey, award-winning co-anchor of WSVN Channel 7 News, will help flip the magical switch along with Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago to illuminate the tree, signaling the official start of the holiday shopping season.
This year’s popular event will include a majestic 50-foot tree with a six-foot-tall, illuminated star topper. The tree is adorned with LED custom colorful lighting, concert grade sound and a snow show. Shoppers can view and pose with the holiday tree through early January 2023.
