Esteban Bovo, Jr., for Hialeah Mayor is the choice for us

We liked Esteban “Steve” Bovo, Jr., as a Miami-Dade County Commissioner and we endorse him for the Hialeah Mayor post.

Hialeah is Bovo’s home and it is where he raised his family, so he knows the community well. He led efforts to approve term limits for the County Commission and worked to reform County Employee Benefits and Retirement to reflect what taxpayers can afford.

He gets down to the basics: he wants to make sure that Hialeah excels at water management and collection services. This is a big deal in all cities.

He wants to improve funding for the parks. Anyone who knows us knows that we love the parks, the sports that take place there and what it means to young people.

He says he will veto any tax hikes or millage increases. That sounds great in a post COVID-19 world, where cities are cobbling together budgets and filling financial holes.

He’s also sensitive to the challenges of the aging population, which is another important detail that cannot be ignored. Often times our culture is focused too much on only younger populations, but we have to respect and honor the contributions of older folks.

He also wants to improve the permitting system and changes regulations that hurt small businesses.

Lastly, he’s got the right message on COVID-19 and the vaccines: “As your Mayor, I will work to ensure everyone has access to the vaccine and resources are available to help our City recover and prosper. I will support keeping our small businesses open and people employed. I will commit to work in close partnership with our federal and state government leaders to ensure public safety while also encourage schools to return to in-school learning.”

So give Bovo his chance as Mayor of Hialeah!
