This June, South Florida PBS’ EMMY® Award winning original series, Changing Seas, returns with four brand-new and captivating episodes.

Season 13 kicks off with “Recreational Shark Fishing: Collaborating for Conservation.” Shore-based, catch and release shark fishing is a popular pastime in Florida. But is it having a negative impact on sensitive shark populations? Scientists have teamed up with anglers to study the survival rates of the fish and conduct outreach on best practices.

Episode 1302 takes viewers on a trip to scenic coastlines in the South, where waves of mesmerizing green and golden grass stretch for miles before meeting the sea. “At the Water’s Edge: The Salt Marsh explores this part liquid, part solid landscape that’s a vital nursery ground for many species and provides an important buffer during storms. How do scientists study the salt marsh? And how resilient is it to climate change?

Episode 1303, “Alvin: Pioneer of the Deep,” a co-production with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, showcases how the famous deep-sea submersible Alvin has brought explorers to extraordinary places for more than 50 years. Now, as Alvin is poised to continue its revolutionary scientific work, a new set of upgrades will take it deeper than ever before.

And finally, episode 1304, “Habitats: The Key to Florida’s Fisheries,” takes a closer look at two of Florida’s most iconic game fish – tarpon and snook. Both species rely on mangrove-lined creeks and backcountry ponds when they are juveniles. With half of the state’s mangroves lost to development, scientists are monitoring fish populations and employ creative solutions to restore and reconnect some of these important habitats to secure the future of the fisheries.

“We are thrilled to be able to share this thought-provoking content with our viewers despite all the challenges that filming during the Covid-19 pandemic has caused,” says Series Producer Alexa Elliott.
