The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing education and agriculture, has announced the recent hire of Jorge Abreu as manager of exhibits and community engagement.
“Jorge Abreu brings a wealth of agricultural experience that will strengthen our ability to be effective advocates for the farming community through our exhibits department. Competitive exhibits have been the mainstay of county fairs since they began, and our award-winning exhibitions are no exception,” said Eddie Cora, president of The Youth Fair.
The Youth Fair’s competitive exhibits feature large and small livestock, the fine arts, science, technology, engineering and math categories, culinary, fashion, robotics, liberal arts, creative writing, and more. As manager, Abreu will work with the director of exhibits to enhance and grow the platform so students in Miami-Dade County can express their talents in a wide variety of subjects and extra-curricular activities.
Abreu comes to The Youth Fair from the Dade County Farm Bureau, where as executive director he served the agricultural community, lobbying on its behalf in Tallahassee and Washington, DC. Previously, he was president and owner of West Kendall Nursery for more than 16 years. He also has served as vice president of Altima International Group.
Abreu holds Bachelor of Science degrees in environmental horticulture and animal biology from the University of Florida and an MBA from Florida International University.
The Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition (The Youth Fair) is the largest charity event in South Florida. The not-for-profit association is dedicated to promoting education and agriculture while showcasing and rewarding youth achievement and providing quality family entertainment, all without taxpayer dollars. The annual Youth Fair exhibits 63,477 student projects to nearly half a million Youth Fair guests and, in 2018, awarded $520,926 in college scholarships, cash premiums and awards to students. To date, The Youth Fair has presented well over $11 million to the Miami-Dade community.
