Family members an friends of the late Kaely Marie Camacho, the 13- year-old student tragically killed in an Apr. 13 traffic accident, attended the July 18 Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting to show support for the Palmetto Bay Council’s consideration of co-designation of a village roadway in her memory.
Camacho, an eighth grade student at Southwood Middle School in Palmetto Bay, excelled in her studies and spent years as a dancer and cheerleader. Kaely was the second daughter of Angela and Kirk Camacho and sister to BreeAnn, Chris, Zack, Thomas and Bella Comacho. She is the step-daughter of Victoria Camacho and firefighter Tim Mungovan is her step-father.
Their appearance at the meeting was a somber and tearful moment for all present, according to Palmetto Bay Mayor Shelley Stanczyk, who is sponsoring a resolution in favor of the street co-designation at the request of Kaely’s mother.
“They all came to our meeting and showed a lot of support,” Stanczyk said. “They brought a lot of the Bronco cheerleaders and the neighborhood children, kids she had gone to school with, and it was a nice thing to do for the parents. They really appreciated it. We wanted to get a consensus to take it to the next regular meeting, where we can vote on it.”
Kaely was on her way to school when another car, illegally using the South Miami-Dade Busway, plowed at high speed into their family car.
