Fellowship House, a leading nonprofit behavioral health organization supporting adults in Miami-Dade County, recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a series of events honoring its legacy, mission, and future.
Since its founding, Fellowship House has been dedicated to improving the lives of individuals experiencing mental illness through comprehensive behavioral health services, supported housing, and a strong sense of community.
The milestone celebration began with the grand opening of Fellowship House’s new offices in Broward, marking a significant expansion of services for the organization. Board members, staff, and community leaders gathered to witness the ribbon-cutting ceremony, a testament to Fellowship House’s growth and commitment to serving South Florida.
The festivities continued with a celebratory breakfast held at Fellowship House’s Clubhouse in Palmetto Bay. This event provided an intimate setting for members, staff, and supporters to reflect on the organization’s journey, share stories, and celebrate the many lives touched by its programs.
Village of Palmetto Bay Mayor, Karyn Cunningham attended the event and presented the Clubhouse with a proclamation highlighting Fellowship House’s years of service.
The main event, held at the South Miami location, featured several special moments that highlighted the importance of Fellowship House’s work in the community. Representatives from the City of South Miami, and Miami-Dade County presented proclamations to honor Fellowship House’s contributions and recognize its half-century of dedicated service.
Several Fellowship House Board members were present including Albert Klomparens, a founding board member, who shared the organization’s origin story. Leslie Flagg, board chair, and Louise Jeroslow, board member also were in attendance.
Among the special guests were South Miami Vice Mayor Lisa Bonich and South Miami Police Chief Reo Hatfield as well as Brenda Lampon, Equity and Engagement manager from Miami-Dade County Office of the Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
Throughout the events, Fellowship House recognized the essential role of its dedicated staff, many of whom have been with the organization for many years. Their commitment and longevity were celebrated as a testament to the supportive, healing environment they’ve fostered for members.
Also honored were the members themselves, whose courage and determination in their recovery journeys have been central to Fellowship House’s mission and success. Together, staff and members have created a resilient community built on mutual respect and shared progress.
One of the celebration’s most memorable moments was the sealing of a time capsule, filled with mementos representing the organization’s journey, achievements, and hopes for the future. Set to be opened in 2049, the time capsule symbolizes a lasting connection between Fellowship House’s past, present, and future.
“For five decades, Fellowship House has been a beacon of hope, resilience, and healing in our community, and today we celebrate not just our organization’s longevity, but the countless lives that have been touched along the way,” said Rosemary Smith Hoel, president and CEO. “We are grateful to our community, partners, and staff for their support and look forward to many more years of growth and positive impact.”
The 50th anniversary events brought together the Fellowship House family, community leaders, and supporters to honor five decades of transformative work and to look forward to a future focused on hope, recovery, and empowerment.
