2022 is on track to break the county’s record for film projects produced, film industry dollars spent, and Miami-Dade residents and vendors hired for production services. According to the Miami-Dade County Office of Film and Entertainment, which collaborates with studios to attract projects to the community, film industry projects spent a total of $156,238,483 in the county in 2021. Between January and April of 2022, that number has already reached $132,371,435.
2021 saw 542 filming permits issued, 10,857 county residents hired, and 5,123 nights worth of production-related hotel stays. 2022 is on track to meet – and exceed – those numbers, with 280 permits issued, 5,537 residents hired, and 3,922 nights worth of hotel stays.
“We are proud that Miami-Dade has seen the fastest post-pandemic recovery in the country, and the attraction of film and TV projects to our county is a major part of revenue coming into the community,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Our vibrant culture, natural beauty, and hardworking and creative residents all make Miami-Dade a great place to shoot a movie or TV show. When our community is so highly sought for high-profile projects, it pays dividends by raising awareness that Miami-Dade is a wonderful place to invest in and visit.”
Through the County Office of Film and Entertainment, studios are incentivized to produce projects in Miami-Dade, as well as hire residents and vendors. For every $1 million a production spends, the county will provide a grant of $100,000, if at least 70% of the production is shot in Miami-Dade and at least 70% of employees and vendors are made up of local businesses and residents. These incentives ensure that money spent in the county remains in the county, benefitting our residents and small businesses.
