Florida International University has once again been recognized among the nation’s Top 10 colleges by Washington Monthly in its annual College Guide and Rankings. Niche also gave FIU high marks overall, including No. 21 in the Top Public Universities in America category.

The Washington Monthly rankings evaluate four-year institutions based on four key categories: access, affordability, outcomes and community and national service.
In the 2025 rankings FIU placed  No. 8 overall, moving up eight spots from No. 16 last year. FIU retained the No.1 ranking in Florida, underscoring its role as a national leader in higher education.

In addition, FIU ranked No. 90 for research and earned the title of No. 1 “Best Bang for Your Buck” in the Southeast.

“These rankings highlight FIU’s dual mission: delivering world-class research while ensuring opportunity and excellence for our students,” said FIU President Jeanette M. Nuñez. “It is deeply rewarding to see FIU recognized not only for impact in research and economic mobility, but also for the outstanding student experience that we create every day.”

FIU’s momentum is further reflected in the 2026 Niche “Best Colleges” rankings released this weekend, which measures academics, admission, financial and campus life based on a combination of public data and millions of student and alumni reviews.

This year, FIU advanced in several categories: No. 21 Top Public Universities (up six spots from last year), No. 9 Best College Food (up two spots), and No. 14 Best College Campuses (up one spot).

FIU is ranked among the top 50 public universities in the nation by U. S. News & World Report. The university also has placed first in performance among Florida public universities for three consecutive years.

“Publications that provide rankings from very different perspectives, including a focus on outcome-driven results, agree that FIU is delivering an excellent academic and social experience to students,” said Elizabeth M. Béjar, provost, executive vice president and chief operating officer.
