Charles W. Flanagan High School sophomore Jacob Thomas, a speedy receiver for the Falcons, has committed to play football for the University of Pittsburg, informally known as Pitt.
Thomas, a player with explosive speed (clocking 10.71 in the 100-meter sprint) and superb catching ability, made a verbal commitment to Pitt Head Coach Pat Narduzzi on March 1st. He is the first player to commit to Pitt’s 2027 recruiting class, and he did it before he even saw the campus.

Jacob, at 5-10 and 165 pounds, has been on college football scouting radars for some time. During the Falcons’ 2024 season, Jacob made 27 catches for 604 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran 11 kickoff returns for 290 yards and a touchdown.
Jacob spoke with us from his home in Pembroke Pines recently about his decision to choose Pitt and asked him to share his thoughts about the Falcons’ upcoming season.
Why did you choose Pitt over the many other colleges interested in you?
“I love how honest they are with me and how they always tell me the truth. Coach Kade Bell and I are in contact almost every day. He’s told me how they are going to use me in their passing game. Pitt feels like a place I can call home.
“Honestly, they’re getting someone who loves football and someone who will stretch the field and be an explosive playmaker for their offense. I’m coming up there to start as a freshman and help them win an ACC championship.”
What are your greatest strengths?
“I’m not the biggest or the strongest or the tallest, but I can make plays regardless of where I am on the field. These 6-4 receivers, they’ve got the height. I don’t. I’m only like 5-10, and I don’t weigh that much, so I’ve got to find a way to stand out. And my speed and me working extra hard, that separates me.”
You come from a football family, right?
“My cousins are Dalvin Cook and James Cook. They’re in the NFL right now. My brother is Jamel Cook. He played at USC and South Carolina. My dad played in college. He played receiver. So, football just runs in the family.”
What predictions do you have for the 2025 Falcons season?
“We have a good team ahead of us and we always come together. We have a strong chance of making it to the state championship and taking it home again.”
