To say that Glenda Defas was frightened when a man carjacked her automobile and threatened her with a hammer while her brother, who is disabled and deaf, sat in the car, is an understatement. But she was devastated when the assailant totaled the car after a police chase. She lost her car that she just paid off after seven years.

Rita Case, President and CEO of Rick Case Automotive Group, heard the story and came to the rescue, gifting a car to Defas. Defas was so overwhelmed by the donation, she fell to her knees in tears when Case told her she was getting a car. Defas was eternally grateful for Case’s generosity.

“He (the assailant) destroyed seven years of my life, but Jesus sent me this angel to release my tragedy,” she said about Case.

Defas’ daughter brought her to Rick Case Honda under the pretense of looking for another vehicle.

“When I heard this story, I had to help this family,” Case said. “She and her brother went through a traumatic experience. I felt so much empathy for her, especially upon learning her car was totaled after she spent seven years paying it off.”

As president and CEO of the award-winning Rick Case Automotive Group, Case oversees what is now the largest female owned and operated independent automotive dealer group in America. The company is one of America’s most respected retail automotive brands, with 12 dealerships throughout South Florida and Atlanta. The South Florida dealerships consistently rank in top volume sales nationally and are honored for operational excellence. A 2022 Horatio Alger Award recipient, Case also sits on the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Miami Branch Board of Directors.

Together, Rita and Rick Case created, developed and led fundraising initiatives that raised more than $120 million for organizations in South Florida.
