The EarthEcho Water Challenge, one of the world’s largest civic science programs, empowering more than 1.6 million young people and community members in 146 countries to connect with and protect their local waterways, is back and bigger than ever.
Launching March 22 to coincide with the United Nations World Water Day, this year, the Water Challenge is expanding with new opportunities for individuals, classrooms, businesses and communities to join the growing global movement to monitor and protect local waterways.

As in years past, EarthEcho’s Water Challenge Ambassadors from Florida will host events throughout the State to increase knowledge of local water resources throughout their communities by leading citizens through water quality monitoring and restoration events. Similar activities will also occur across the United States in Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, New York, and Ohio. Please visit (https://www.monitorwater.org/post/2022-world-water-day-events) for a full schedule of this year’s events.

“We are all connected by water, and we all have a role to play in ensuring that clean, healthy water is accessible to everyone,” said EarthEcho founder Philippe Cousteau, Jr. “Powered by our network of youth leaders and partners around the world, the EarthEcho Water Challenge is a simple and accessible starting point for anyone to become a champion for a clean water future.”

Events in Florida include:

• March 17, Sarasota: Water Challenge Ambassadors Harper Campbell and Faith Blackall will host an assembly focused on water quality for local middle school students.

• March 26, Miami: Water Challenge Ambassador and Doral resident Valeria Mejia will host a water testing event and coastal cleanup at Bill Baggs State Park.

• April 2:
– Dania Beach: Senior Water Challenge Ambassador Joey Goldstein will host a beach cleanup and water monitoring event with classmates from her high school.
– Crystal River: Lorelei Mohammadbhoy will hold a water monitoring and invasive algae removal event for local students.
– Sarasota: Emilia Fiebel and Faith Blackall will share a virtual water monitoring video program they created with local students.

This year, the EarthEcho Water Challenge will also launch in-person events in communities and schools in Barcelona, Spain (March 22) and Sardinia, Italy (March 24). Likewise, EarthEcho will involve students in the latest Xylem Inc.’s and Manchester City FC’s campaign to “Take Steps to Solve Water.” This campaign is led by Pep Guardiola, manager of the current champion Premier League football club Manchester City, and co-founder of the Guardiola Sala Foundation, the newest Water Challenge funding partner.
