When the 2019 Howard Palmetto Baseball League season started, Coach Dan Toledo had no idea that this season was going to be the season of his lifetime.

Coach Dan has made many player trades in his 12 years with the league and at first this trade seemed no different, until he met the player’s mom,
Dr. Philene Harte.

As she does every season, Philene signed up to volunteer as the team mom and was disappointed to find the position was filled. Then her son came home after practice and said the coach had changed his mind.

“It was the first year I had multiple team moms and that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made” Coach Dan said.

Philene and Dan spent time together with the team and eventually they began to spend time together on their own, which ultimately led to the two being married, in a small private ceremony held on the field where they met, Field 3 at Suniland Park in Pinecrest, the place they call their “Field of Dreams.”
