Former NBA veteran Amar’e Stoudemire was arrested late Saturday night at his Miami condo and is currently facing a misdemeanor battery charge.

The Miami-Dade County court records have Stoudemire,40, being booked in at 4:09 am and later being released on a $1,500 bond.

The police report that the Miami Herald was able to obtain states that Stoudemire had struck one of his two daughters during their altercation. However, the report doesn’t go into the details as to which of his daughters was involved. Stoudemire had confronted his daughter and had accused her of being disrespectful to his mother over the phone. When the girl had denied such an accusation, he remarked “You’re talking back again” and proceeded to punch her in the jaw, leaving her bleeding.

The girl had contacted her mother immediately after the altercation, who came to the condo to pick up the two girls and brothers before calling the police.

When the officers had arrived at the scene, they were told that the girl had called for her mother because she was sad after having “received a whooping from him for being disrespectful and a liar.” Stoudemire then invoked his right to remain silent from the matter.

On a social media post made on instagram the former NBA veteran denied the allegation made against him.

“I could never see myself assaulting any person, especially my children,” Stoudemire wrote. “I respect, protect, and love my family, particularly my children. As a father, I ask for your grace as we secure our space and privacy.”

Stoudemire’s instagram page also showed that he had received his master’s degree earlier that Saturday from the University of Miami before the whole incident occurred.

The former NBA veteran had quite an illustrious career for himself. Stoudemire had won the Rookie of the Year award in the 2002-03 season with the Phoenix Suns and had six all star appearances. The All Star big man had played for 15 NBA seasons with numerous teams including the Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, and New York Knicks. Stoudemire retired with career averages of 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
