COVID-19 continues to change life as we know it. I have daily conversations about how to reopen and when to reopen while reviewing health data that shows we are not ready for the next phases of what will be our new normal moving forward.

As a community, we must remain vigilant and do our part to slow the spread of this dangerous virus. If you must go out, remember to wear a mask in public, stay home if you feel sick, get tested often, and wash your hands frequently.

In the City of Miami Gardens, due to the uptick in positive COVID-19 cases, I signed an executive order mandating that Residents and visitors must wear a mask in public. To that end, Miami Gardens Police will enforce this order by giving those without masks in public a mask along with a reminder about public health safety. Habitual offenders run the risk of being cited and/or fined.

While we work to keep our Residents safe and healthy, the City continues to work to ensure smart growth and development. As we survey the landscape along our major corridor, 27th Avenue, we see cranes and buildings coming out of the ground, which signals progress and economic investment.

The City’s growth and investment have not gone unnoticed, and on August 17, Miami Gardens will be on display at the All American City Awards. This year’s theme, “Enhancing health and well-being through civic engagement,” allows the city to showcase the Live Healthy Miami Gardens Initiative along with Keep Miami Gardens Beautiful and the city’s investment in our parks.

2020 has shown us that we are resilient. We can navigate uncharted waters and work together for the betterment of our community. Let’s continue to move forward together.

Stay safe,

Mayor Oliver Gilbert
