Gables Museum exhibit traces 40 years of living with AIDS

In April, the Clear Health Alliance, a specialized Medicaid plan that supports better health for people living with HIV/AIDS in Florida, opened a three-month long exhibition, “A Matter of Time: Examining Forty Years of AIDS While Living through a Pandemic,” at the Coral Gables Museum.

The exhibition, which continues through July 18, gathers historical information on the emergence and development of AIDS, 40 years after the first reported case by the Center for Disease Control in the summer of 1981. Since the beginning of the pandemic over 33 million people have died of the disease.

Taking over three galleries of the museum, the exhibition will showcase myriad objects, documents, ephemera and major artworks in different disciplines to educate the community on information that helped trace American and Miami-related stories of those who succumbed to the disease, and those who survived.
