It has been a busy year for are GFWC District 11 clubs.
The GFWC Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove hosted the Young Artists’ Gallery (YAG) with its annual juried art exhibition showcasing the talent of Miami-Dade County’s public high school students. The art was on view and open to the public over the weekend of Mar. 13 at the clubhouse with extensive COVID 19 protocols in place.
Because the 2020 exhibition was canceled due to the pandemic, this exhibition included both the 2020 and 2021 winners. This year’s awarded prizes includes six scholarships totaling $20,000.
The GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club continued holding the monthly Gringo Bingo games at Clutch Burger, 146 Giralda, with the next one scheduled for Tuesday, Apr. 6, to benefit the club’s free children’s dental clinic and other charities.
Bringing on sponsors like 1st Elite Premier Financial and EZ Title Services and Center State Bank have helped raise thousands over the past few months with the latest Gringo Bingo attracting a great crowd on the plaza with ample room to space the tables in front of Clutch Burger. DJ Germain continues to donate his services providing music to make every event a party.
The last three CGWC Gringo Bingo evenings have raised more than $5,000 for the children’s free dental clinic, thanks to our sponsors, the many businesses donating prizes and a very generous donation from Coral Gables residents Hal Wanless and Lynn Bauer.
These two seem to be everywhere supporting so many non profits with their time, talent and money.
In fact, Lynn was an honoree at the CGWC Gala in February 2020 before the pandemic closed everything. Lynn and Hal were among the many guests at the Mar. 2 Gringo Bingo enjoying the games and the final weeks of Illuminate Coral Gables and its lighted installations over Giralda Plaza and throughout Coral Gables.
An off-shoot of this Gringo Bingo, Singles Mingle Gringo Bingo, held on Mar. 16 targeted singles. More on that next time. All of these CGWC games are hosted by Clutch Burger and its owner Steven Bradley, who came up with this fundraiser coordinated by the Coral Gables Woman’s Club that has been sharing proceeds with numerous other charities since March 2019.
Tickets for the regular Gringo Bingos at $20 include 12 games with great prizes. To RSVP for future games or to come on board as a sponsor, send email to gloria@cnews.net.
In other club news, the Rotary Club of Coral Gables is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee 75th Anniversary with an online diamond jewelry auction. The event, chaired by RCCG’s president-elect Nicolas Eterovich — with lots of help from president Kelly Garces, past president Sally Baumgartner, secretary Rudford Hamon and Miami’s Community Newspapers — kicked off on Valentine’s Day and ran through Mar. 4. The RCCG Auction was all diamond jewelry hosted by Carroll’s with diamond jewelry from Carroll’s, Snows, Jays, and even some $10,000 worth of diamond jewelry donated by Sally Baumgartner. Proceeds from the auction will be directed to the club’s RCCG Foundation that makes grants to numerous charitable organizations such as Chapman Partnership, Coral Gables Children’s Dental Clinic, Shake-A-Leg, Shelter Box, and more.
By the way, the City of Coral Gables and the Rotary Club of Coral Gables board of directors have decided to postpone again the Chili Cook Off scheduled for March until Sunday, Oct. 31, for a Halloween Spooky Chili Cook-off. Save the date, start thinking about your costumes and and pray things are back to normal by that time.
Finally, please tune in to our Miami’s Community Newspapers’ Facebook Live shows. My show airs every Monday, 10 a.m., and can be seen later on our communitynewspapers’ Facebook pages or Youtube.
Many thanks to my recent guests including Steven Bradley, owner of Clutch Burger, who is my current show sponsor and host of our monthly CGWC Gringo Bingo fundraisers. Yet another show sponsor coming on board is Jackie Milanes, Allthingsjackiem. Jackie wears many hats and has a generous spirit giving back to the community.
Other guests sharing that generous nature have included Ana Veiga Milton, celebrity chef Chris Valdes, Patrick Morris, Susan Danis, Greg Martini, Kelly Garces, Arely Ruiz, Carol Caridad, Kirk Whipple and Marilyn Morales, Ruth Martinez, all of whom serve our community so well.
Until next time, keep making each day count, be kind and stay safe.
