GOLD STAR STATUS AWARDED TO MIAMI JOB CORPS CENTER BY NATIONAL JOB CORPS ASSOCIATION

The NJCA (National Job Corps Association) strengthens the Job Corps program through government relations, grassroots education and outreach, informing national policy, and outreach campaigns that increase the visibility of Job Corps.  Every Job Corps Centers is encouraged to join the National Job Corps Association to highlight the excellent education and outreach in their communities.  The NJCA STAR program measures a Center’s successful efforts on a quarterly and yearly basis.

For the year 2021, the Miami Job Corps Center (MJCC) was awarded a Job Corps GOLD STAR Center, the highest award attainable for successfully completing various Outreach and Educational goals.  In addition, Miami Job Corps was proud to be in the top 10 Centers for Quarter 4 of 2021.  There are 121 Job Corps Centers across the country. Operated by Adams and Associates Inc. for the US Dept. of Labor, Miami Job Corps Center is located in Miami Gardens, FL.

In January 2021 Mary Geoghegan, MJCC Center Director and Gary Ryan, Outreach and Admissions/Career Transitions Manager, appointed Ms. Lesly Diaz as Miami Job Corps Center’s NJCA STAR Coordinator. Ms. Diaz took on the appointed position with great enthusiasm.  Forging partnerships is something Ms. Diaz has done successfully for many years.  Ms. Diaz was hired to work with Job Corps in 2007 as Homestead Job Corps Center’s Business and Community Liaison.  “When Ms. Diaz came to Miami Job Corps Center in 2016, Ms. Diaz continued to foster the government, employer and community partnerships she had built business relationships with over the years.  This, in addition to new contacts, has led to the success of the NJCA STAR initiative at MJCC” proudly stated Geoghegan.

Ms. Lesly Diaz, a Career Transition Specialist (CTS) at MJCC, also receives support from various Center departments and staff.  Here are just a few: CTS and Outreach and Admissions departments assist with outreach to both employers and community partners.  Ann Noriega, Executive Administrative Assistant, provides creative and technological guidance.
