South Florida has a new small business hoping to knock your socks off and surprise you with its unique, curated finds. The Grand Opening of Tropical Jewelry and Gems, held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, attracted a crowd of over seventy people to participate in the Ribbon-Cutting ceremony with the City of Plantation’s Mayor, Nick Sortal, and to discover the new shop’s interesting selections.

“Want a release? This is a place where you don’t have to go but can go just to have fun. Go look, be playful, and find all kinds of gifts there,” said City of Plantation Mayor Nick Sortal. “I feel like a very big spirit of giving in there and that people are looking to buy things for other people. Nothing feels better than that. Nothing feels better than giving. When you give something as a gift that you know the other person likes, it’s especially uplifting. I really appreciate getting a business like this in the City and, of course, being right next to pizza and pita dining too!”

Behind the scenes, Tropical Jewelry and Gems has been years in the making and is now propelled forward with the opening of this shop. “With over 35 years of experience in the fine jewelry industry in the past, we hope to make this shop your ‘go-to’ neighborhood jewelry shop now and in the future,” said Maisy Alpert, President of Tropical Jewelry and Gems. “Our new concept blends fine gemstone and diamond jewelry with just as fun, trendy fashion jewelry to cover all tastes and budgets.”

“Jewelry is so fun to wear! It can be the best way to express your personality, beliefs, and values and jewelry just makes you all-over happy!” said Ms. Alpert. “Everyone should experiment with it and find what best fits their style.”

Tropical Jewelry and Gems is a 100% woman-owned small business. While buying diamond and gemstone jewelry, the added soft touch is that the place is a one-stop shop for unique gifts and artful home décor. Crystals, minerals, and ancient fossils complement the mix of curated finds. True to its name, you’ll notice tropical, nautical, ocean, and sealife themes sprinkled throughout the store located in the shopping plaza Shoppes at Cleary at 8968 Cleary Boulevard.

At the Grand Opening, Plantation City Council Member Jennifer Andreu joined in the celebration. Every person got a free raffle ticket just for arriving at the launch event. Five lucky winners won the Raffles for artwork, jewelry, watches, and gift certificates. In appreciation of coming out to the grand opening event, the shop gave away free jewelry gifts worth over $25 to those who spent over $30 that day.
