On Thursday, July 15, the City of Miami Gardens held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of its newest facility – the Senior Family Center. The Senior Family Center is part of the $60M General Obligation Bond program that was approved by residents in April 2014 for improvements to the City’s parks infrastructure and enhance public safety efforts. The impressive 38,000 square foot property features several multi-use rooms and spacious meeting halls; a fitness center; a beautiful illuminated walking trail that surrounds a community botanical garden; an outdoor covered patio; outdoor kitchen; public pavilions; and a video surveillance system with cameras monitored from the Real-Time Crime Center.

The community garden was named in honor of former Councilman David Williams Jr., in recognition of his commitment to science and passion for the exotic plants and fruits he cultivated in the garden. The Center is now an important community resource – promoting healthy aging by providing access to multiple resources that allow seniors to stay active and engaged in their community. Additionally, the facility is available for family and community activities.

The Senior Family Center is located at 18330 NW 12 Avenue, Miami Gardens, FL 33056 and may be reached at (305) 622-5780.
