Heartwarming Holiday Surprise for Broward Veteran

On Nov. 26, 2024, Florida Power & Light Company’s (FPL) volunteers decorate the home of Fort Lauderdale hero Tremain Mathis, U.S. Marine Corps veteran, as part of FPL’s 17th annual holiday program, which celebrates local heroes for their service to the community. FPL worked with United Way of Broward County to surprise this local U.S. Marine Corps veteran at his Fort Lauderdale home with some much-deserved holiday cheer.

On Tuesday, Nov. 26, a bright holiday surprise awaited U.S. Marine Corps veteran Tremain Mathis and his child! Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) “elves” worked their magic, decorating the family’s home for the holidays with thousands of sparkling LED lights, solar-powered displays and other energy-efficient décor. An annual festive tradition, this celebration marks the 17th consecutive year of FPL’s holiday program, which gives back to local heroes for their incredible commitment to the nation and their community.

Details on the holiday hero lighting event: 

  • A joyous moment for local U.S. Marine Corps veteran Tremain Mathis.
  • Tremain served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2004-2008, where he distinguished himself as a dedicated mortarman.
  • His exemplary service earned him numerous accolades including the Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Bar, Humanitarian Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Certificate of Appreciation and a Rifle Qualification Badge, reflecting his exceptional skill and commitment.
  • To thank him for his service, Florida Power & Light Company transformed the Marine Corp’s home into an energy-efficient holiday wonderland.
  • FPL volunteers decorated Tremain’s front yard with LED’s, solar-powered lights and other energy-efficient décor.
  • FPL worked with the United Way of Broward County to honor him and say thank you for his service.
